South Africa secured a two-nil series win after they cruised past West Indies by seven wickets on the fourth day of the third test at the Kensington Oval in Bridgetown, Barbados, on Tuesday.
The Proteas needed just 38 minutes to end the home side’s resistance during the morning session as speedster Morne Morkel nabbed three wickets to bowl West Indies out for 161.
South Africa were left to score 47 runs to win the match and, despite a top-order wobble, they duly reached 49 for three 25 minutes before lunch.
West Indies quick Kemar Roach was responsible for making life a touch difficult for South Africa as he captured three for 22 in a high-class spell of fast bowling.
The home side began the day on 134 for seven and they added just 17 runs before Morkel bowled the left-handed Sulieman Benn (nine).
Morkel then wrapped the innings up when he had Roach (eight) caught behind and Brandon Bess (nought) caught by Jacques Kallis at second slip.
Shivnarine Chanderpaul remained defiant to the bitter end as he ended unbeaten on 71 off 179 balls.
Morkel ended the innings with figures of three for 33 while fellow fast bowler Dale Steyn captured three for 36.
Off-spinner Johan Botha secured match figures of seven for 102 after snaring three for 46 during the Windies’ second innings to be named man-of-the-match.
South Africa looked intent in knocking off the required runs as quickly as possible but Roach had Graeme Smith (10) caught at midwicket and Alviro Petersen (six) bowled off an inside edge.
Hashim Amla (25) scored the bulk of the runs needed for victory but he fell with the score on 45 when he steered a Roach delivery to Benn in the gully.
The final session of play was marred by an argument between Roach and Jacques Kallis after the bowler struck Kallis on the helmet with a superb bouncer.
The spat was so heated that players and umpires had to intervene to try and calm the situation.
